Yvette Hoffman, wife of Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman, is being hailed a heroine after she allegedly used her body as a shield to protect her daughter from bullets in what’s been described as a politically motivated shooting.
On Saturday, June 14, chaos and tragedy descended on two homes about five miles apart in Brooklyn Park and Champlin, Minnesota. Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman, 55, and her husband Mark, 58, were shot dead. Across town, State Senator John Hoffman, 60, and his wife Yvette were both shot, with Yvette’s family saying she had used her body to protect her daughter during the attack.
The dramatic incident has sent shockwaves through the community and the wider political sphere. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz confirmed that the shootings were part of what appears to be a politically motivated attack, further escalating tensions and fears in the wake of recent heated political rhetoric.
