Reality star and entrepreneur Angela Simmons and Memphis rapper Yo Gotti have finally laid rumors to rest. In a recent episode of the Angie Martinez IRL podcast aired on Wednesday, June 18, Simmons confirmed the dissolution of their two-year relationship. But rather than acrimonious, it appears the couple ended things mutually, with the pair pronouncing “respect” for the other.
Simmons, ahead of confirming the breakup, shared that she was in a “growing” and “healing” season of her life. She added, “I’m transforming into the next part of myself.” On the topic of being single, the star stated that it marked her “single girl era”, but maintained that her respect for the Memphis rapper remains intact.
Simmons surprisingly revealed that she had initiated the breakup, noting, “I wouldn’t have chosen it, but it was what was best,”. She asserted that although she could have engaged in several other relationships, differing to remain quiet and respectful towards the relationship was her choice.
The actress then delved into her experiences with men who have an idealized or fantasized version of her, stemming from her reality TV appearances. This was mainly referring to Yo Gotti who publicly proclaimed his crush on her in his 2016 track “Down in the DM”, only to be confronted by the real Simmons once they were in a relationship. Refuting the pressures of maintaining a public image, she explained, “This is who I am.”
Despite parting ways, the bond and the memories they shared remain untouched. Simmons reminisced about the “great, beautiful memories” and “fun moments” they had shared, most of which they had posted on social media for their fans.
Rumors of their possible break up began circulating about a month ago when Simmons shared a cryptic Instagram post about desiring things that offered mutual energy. The Run’s House star posted on May 22, without revealing the breakup timeline, the cryptic message fuelled speculation about the status of her relationship with Yo Gotti. Following her recent affirmation, it’s pretty clear that the post was indeed a veiled reference to their breakup.
All said and done, it seems Simmons and Yo Gotti have chosen to handle their split maturely and respectfully, allowing fans to respect their decision while respecting each other.
